The evil enemies plan to take down the fair maiden Princess-What's-Her-Name, leaving Jim with the task of saving her and all of mankind (probably). This happens to land on Jim, transforming him into an all-powerful worm with big muscles and an even bigger gun. Jim, a regular braindead earthworm, is minding his own business when Psy-Crow steals a space suit intended for Queen Slug-for-a-Butt, but accidentally lets it fall to earth. The story is a pretty straightforward affair. The quirky style, slick animations and humorous plot and enemies, made the game something of a hit, leading to a sequel and even its own animated series. Unfortunately, despite a few new levels, a decent, albeit short-lived, multiplayer mode and some shiny new visuals, the antiquated control scheme and confusing level design mean that Earthworm Jim HD is hard to recommend for newcomers and best left to the fans.įor those unfamiliar with Earthworm Jim, the game was released back in 1994. Earthworm Jim falls somewhere in the middle of these, but has been remade nevertheless. There are some games that demand the remake treatment, while others are probably best left in the past. Groovy.Also available on: PSN, WiiWare (Summer 2010) One level had you bouncing puppies off a giant marshmallow, Game & Watch style, and another had you inexplicably playing as a cave salamander named "Blind Sally." All this, and the protagonist is still an earthworm in a super suit. While the first installment could comfortably be classified as a platformer, the sequel launched traditional level design out the window like a cow off a catapult.
or EAT DIRT!Ī solid follow-up, marred by terrible ports in years to come, the original version of Earthworm Jim 2 provided plenty of new features while adhering to its predecessor's insane pace and humor. Take it up to the front counter and try it at home! Trust no one, play it yourself. Are you up to the challenge? Can you handle the awesome new weapons? Excellent! Then stop reading this. Saving cows, thwarting lawyers and outsmarting Psy-Crow are all in a day's work for Jim.
